Dr. Stephen L. Longenecker was the Edwin L. Turner Distinguished Professor of History at Bridgewater College. He is the author of Shenandoah Religion: Outsiders and the Mainstream, 1716-1865 (Baylor University Press), and his current project is Pulpits of the Lost Cause: The Faith and Politics of Former Confederate Chaplains during Reconstruction.
Steve contributed the introductory text for the Pre-Civil War section of the Virginia Constitution Exhibit and spoke about Civil Rights in Virginia for the exhibit's opening reception.
Upon his retirement from Bridgewater College in 2021, Steve was granted Emeritus status.
