Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan assists scholarly research by obtaining materials unavailable at the Alexander Mack Library from other libraries.

  • Eligibility. Patrons must have a valid Alexander Mack Memorial Library card or Bridgewater College ID.
  • Circulation period.  The lending library determines the borrowing period and possibility of renewals.
  • Restrictions. We cannot borrow items to be placed on reserve, textbooks, or many audiovisual materials (DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks - except for foreign film and documentary DVDs).
  • Responsibility. The borrower is responsible for honoring the due date of each item and for paying any charges associated with overdue materials, loss, or damage. Borrowed items should be returned in the condition in which they were received by the patron.
  • Fines. ILL is a free service to College patrons; however, overdue items incur $2 per day for 14 days. After 14 days accounts will be billed an additional $47, and frozen until charges are resolved.

Reciprocal Borrowing

The Mack Library has agreements with local college/university libraries that allow our faculty/staff/students to utilize their collections. Just bring your college ID to JMU Libraries, Mary Baldwin College Library, Shenandoah University Library, and Eastern Mennonite University Library to check out any of their books.

The library also has a borrowing agreement with participating members of the Virtual Library of Virginia. See our Circulation Policies page for more information.

Copyright Restrictions

Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copy order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
